Say Yes to the Dress!

29 Oct

Good morning everyone,

As many of you know one of the Belles, DeShae tied the knot this weekend! Of course, the wedding so fabulous and we will get to that soon, but today’s post is all about this beautiful bride finding her dream gown! DeShae was featured on TLC’s show Say Yes  to the Dress, and her episode aired on the season finale apply titled “Bling it on!”

Read on to find out more about DeShae’s big spot light moment!!

Now that my “Say Yes To The Dress” filming experience has ended, it has finally sunk in that it actually even happened at all! I still have to pinch myself when I think about how crazy it is that it happened to little ole me! Being the girly, frilly, wedding dress dreamer that I am, I always dreamed of going to Kleinfeld for my dress. When I applied for the show, I never even told too many people because I didn’t think it would ever happen. My own MOTHER didn’t even know! (Sorry mom, lol) But, apparently the wedding dress gods had bigger plans for me! My expectations were very VERY high of what my experience would be like at Kleinfeld. They exceeded it. It was like no other place on Earth. It was like floating on a cloud, in a dream, surrounded by the most amazing staff, dresses, atmosphere, and customer service.  (cheesy and cliche, I know!)

Walking into the front doors of the store, you can see why Kleinfeld has been the BEST of the BEST for the past 60 years. They have mastered what they do. The best day of my life will be the day I get to marry my best friend. The second best day was the day he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. The third best day was the day I became a Kleinfeld Bride. Here’s my journey:

This is me the night before my appointment.
We went to have drinks and decided to walk to Kleinfeld to check it out.
Yeah, I was stalkin’. In the rain. No big deal. Not even ashamed to admit it.

Our group arrived at Kleinfeld around 1:30EST. We checked in with the receptionist who was INTRIGUED by what we call our “Lagniappe”! We literally brought Louisiana to New York! We brought all of the workers Mardi Gras beads and introduced them to the “second line” tradition! Thanks to our close friends, Belinda and Krissi Yoder, for letting me borrow your “bridal” umbrella! It made a super special day even that much better! Every consultant that came through the waiting room came over to talk to us, greet us, ask about our umbrellas and beads, and were THRILLED to wear their own piece of Mardi Gras around their neck! Keasha came through and loved my umbrella so we took a quick picture. She is just as fabulous is person as she is on TV.

As nervous as I was, the laid-back nature of the film crew and staff helped calm all MOST of my nerves! They wanted everyone to be as natural and comfortable as possible. Everything you see on the show is exactly the way it is. I always thought that SURELY the producers, someone, makes these people act a fool. Nope. That’s just them! They literally told me that they did not want me to choose a dress JUST because I was filming for the show. If there was anything anyone could do, they would do. Everyone bent over backwards to make my experience an amazing one. I tried to take in as much of the experience as possible and as I looked around, everyone was being treated this way:

LIKE ROYALTY!
(As if I didn’t already think I was a queen)
The first thing I did was to walk around and look at some different dresses. I had to verbalize what I liked and didn’t like about the dresses I was looking at. GREAT. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t have a filter. I was trying to be as nice as possible….”too plain”  “too lacy” “this one’s ok, but not the one” and THEN IT HAPPENED. The dress that made ME come out. “OHH…MY..GOSH…UGHHHHH….THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE BIG BIRD….I DON’T THINK SO!!” (and anyone that knows me can probably envision my face and exactly how I said it!) The camera man laughed out loud. I cringed a little thinking about the fact that I was probably going to get hate mail from whatever designer killed a million little ostriches to get all those feathers on that dress. I know what you’re thinking. Feathers are fabulous. Yes, they are. I love feathers. But, THIS, whew~ I just can’t describe it. The only words that came to mind, apparently, was big bird. And that’s all folks!
I got to have a seat with my “entourage” for a little while waiting on my consultant to come and get me. Her name was Jenny and she was a PERFECT, PERFECT fit for me! We all just love her! I did take a picture with her BUT, as much as everyone would want to see it because I am in THE dress, you’ll have to wait! She was getting me squeezed into a dress and I told her to keep on pulling because breathing was optional. (another laugh from the camera lady). I showed her a few pictures of things I liked and things I didn’t like. Missy, Destanee, and I sat up in our hotel room looking through bridal mags the night before. It was a lot of fun!
Before little Jenny even got to bring me some dresses she thought I would love, I was approached by Henry Roth. For those of you who do watch SYTTD, you would recognize him:
For everyone that really knows me, you know I’m a people pleaser. (OK OK, you can pick your jaw off the floor now. Shocking, I know! But it is true) So, Jenny asked me if I wanted to go show everyone the dress. At that point, I probably should have just said no because I really hated the dress. The whole people pleaser thing wins. I go out in the dress. I guess I just did it for fun. The look on Missy’s and everyone’s face was just priceless. No one said a word. LOL (CONGRATULATIONS Henry Roth, You shut my entire entourage up! Not an easy feat!) Anyway, he was watching me in the dress and the detail of the dress was immaculate. There was just SO much detail in it that I felt like I was drowning in it. After that fiasco was over, it was BUSINESS TIME!
Jenny went out and found a few dresses and loved them ALL! There were 3 basic things I was looking for in a dress (no, I’m not telling you what they are!). The first dress was pretty and had 1 of those three things. Then you start the whole “if you change this part of the dress, take this off, add this, and multiply this~ it’s perfect” Well, if you have to change, add, delete, or multiply anything on a dress….
IT IS NOT THE DRESS!!
After this dress, Jenny had a “LIGHT BULB” moment! I got excited and nervous at the same time! Anxious to see what she had come up with! I just waited very impatiently in my dressing room chatting with the producer (who was female and never filmed while I was changing…That’s a whole different kind o’ show!)
Remember, Jenny brought in a slew of dresses for me to try on. I only tried on 1 of her picks when she had her light bulb moment. She came in and hung two dresses up- side by side. She said that her “light bulb” dress was about $1200 OVER my budget, did I want to try it on? As a good girl who loves her daddy and doesn’t want him to die of a heart attack before my wedding, I said no. So we went right back to the first set of dresses and started trying them on. The second dress I tried on was good but I didn’t get the feeling that it was “THE” dress. It was definitely a front runner! It was also similar to one of the dresses that she brought in after her “light bulb” moment. When mom said that she wished 1 part of the dress was a little different, I said “OHHH, MOM! You should SEE this dress that she brought in, it was like *this* and like *that* and the bottom was *this* and it was AMAZING but it was way over budget =( “
I was crying on the inside when…..
Jenny came to the rescue!!
She told me that the dress I was describing to my mom was NOT the dress that was over budget!!!! It was the OTHER dress that was over budget!!! The dress I had fallen in LOVE with was still in my budget and I could try it on! I knew before I even tried it on that I was done. This was THE dress, I just knew it! Tried it on and Jenny hadn’t even finished getting me in the thing and I was already squealing like a little school girl. She couldn’t see me but she said “THAT sounds like a good sign!!” And it was! It took everything I had not to do a happy dance…OK, maybe I did a happy dance!
Here’s how the logistics were from when I tried a dress on to when my entourage could see it. I would go to my dressing room (it was one of the 4 rooms surrounding the ‘smaller’ pedestal where brides are sometimes on the show), try on the dress, and when I was ready I would come out and wait at the corner before entering the main bridal floor. They had crew making sure all the cameras were ready. Once they were, I was able to walk out and show everyone the dress. If you ask ANYONE that was there~ Mom, Destanee, Dara, Missy, Shannon~ they will all say the same thing. As SOON as I walked out and they saw my face they just KNEW. They knew that this was THE dress. Now, something you may not think about~ I walk out and stand on the pedestal and drop the skirt (since you have to hold it up to not trip while walking). Your entourage can’t see anything but the back of your dress because of the way the mirrors are angled. When they have the bride turn around, that is the first time they are seeing the FULL dress! Before I even turned around, every one of them was crying! Don’t get me wrong, I was right there with them! Everyone asks me what my dress is like, I just tell them it’s very “DeShae” because I deserve my own adjective.
AND THE BIG REVEAL TO THE BLOG WORLD….

The beautiful bride in her NYC gown!

Doesn’t she look lovely, folks?? More of DeShae’s amazing Southern Bridals will be featured in a later post, so stay tuned!

That’s all for the day. Don’t forget to contact the Two Belles for all your event planning dreams! Southern Flare. Any Budget.

It’s his day too! How to get your groom excited about the wedding!

18 Oct

Good morning every body!

Today’s post will feature tips and tricks on how to get your fiance excited about planning your wedding. Everyone says it’s all about the bride, but it’s his day too! To make your big day as special for him as it will be for you, throw in some special details he will truly remember!

So you’re newly engaged, sit down with your new fiance and find out what’s most important to him. My fiance is incredibly laid back and even he had some input. One thing almost all men will want to participate in is the food tasting. What man wouldn’t love a day filled with sampling amazing food. This is the easiest way to get a little excitement out of your future husband. Talk with your caterers and set up appointments to sample food and make sure to bring your man along.

Another great food related way to get your groom involved is to create a signature couple’s cocktail. Meet with bartenders either at your venue or at your favorite bar and come up with a special drink that reflects each of you. You can have one signature couple’s cocktail or have two specialty drinks for each of you.

Signature drinks can sometimes lean towards the girlier side, here are a few cocktails that he, as well as your guests, will love:

James Bond Vesper Martini

Image

This martini is James Bond’s drink of choice. To make it combine 3oz. Gordon’s gin, 1oz. vodka, 1/2 oz. Lillet Blanc. Then, in the words of Bond himself, shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.

This drink is extra special for a groom that’s especially a Bond fan. It also fits in well at a more formal affair.

Next up, if your fiance is the type of guy that loves whiskey or bourbon, then this one is for him!

Bulleit Neat

Image

No frills here – its just you and the bourbon.  This just screams, “Rugged Man”.

Is your groom into golfing? Then try this out!

A Hole In One

Image

This delicious concoction shows you are a gentleman, yet gives an underlying tone that you love sports and athleticism – therefore you are a man.  It’s very swanky and has a good country-club socialite as well, perfect for the man that loves to golf.

To make a Hole In One  add 1 1/2 ounces Johnnie Walker red, 1 tbsp honey and 3 ounces of unsweetened tea in a glass. Stir and serve over ice.  Garnish with a lemon wedge.

Another great way to incorporate your groom into wedding planning is through his groom cake. The groom’s cake is the time to showcase your groom’s interest. Bakers these days are going above and beyond on the cake front. If you can dream it, any baker can build it! Here’s some fun ideas:

LSU Cake/Whatever sports team they cheer for

In Louisiana, LSU themed cakes seem to be the norm. Just about every man is a fan. Here’s some great cakes.

Image

This replica of tiger stadium is sure to have any Tiger fan jumping for joy.

If you’re like me and your fiance cheers for another team, incorporate that in the cake as well. My fiance graduated from Texas A&M (we try not to hold it against him) and goes to LSU Law School. I’m trying to talk him into something like this.

Image

If your man isn’t such a sports fanatic, try incorporating another one of his hobbies into the cake.

Is he a gamer? Try this out!

Image

And if all else fails, what man doesn’t love a nice cold beer?

Image

Here’s a few more fun wedding ideas that will get your fiance excited about the wedding:

If your man and the male guests at the wedding are known to love football, why not incorporate the actual football into the garter toss? Try attaching your garter to a football for the groom to throw. Your man will think it’s the coolest idea!

Image

And don’t be afraid to incorporate more of your man into the details. He loves baseball? Try something like this! He’ll truly appreciate your efforts, and cherish them forever.

We hope you enjoyed to days post! Enjoy the rest of your day.

A Southern Sunflower filled Affair!

15 Oct

Good morning everyone!

We hope everyone had a great weekend! The Two Belles were kept busy by celebrating a tiger victory, and throwing DeShae’s bridal shower yesterday! Today’s post is full of pictures of the event:

What a welcoming entry way!

The sunflower theme immediately welcomed guests to the shower. This entry way was made complete with a stunning garland and a customized wreath for the party!

ImageA close up of the wreath. We do declare, it was adorable!

ImageThe signing table was covered in sunflowers and a cute picture of the couple. Cylinder vases were filled with sunflower seeds and candles to match the theme. Of course, there was sparkle throughout!

ImageHere’s a shot of the food table before guests arrived. No detail was left out! All the food was even sunflower themed! (ps ignore my reflection in the mirror 😉 )

ImageImageImage

How cute are all these sunflower shaped snacks?? Even the little signs on the side of the dishes featured sunflowers!

Image

No Southern Belle event is complete without hand squeezed lemonade and sweet tea to offer!

ImageThe desert table featured another sunflower centerpiece. Even the cupcakes were topped with little sunflower cutouts! So cute!

Image

Here’s a close up of some more yummy themed desserts!

Even the glasses were included in the theme! Gold sequins add some flare to basic red wine glasses!

DeShae’s shower was a huge success. A southern shower fit for a southern belle! We hope you enjoyed today’s post. Don’t forget, Two Belles would love to come decorate for your next big event too!

Have a lovely evening.

What to wear to a fall wedding!

12 Oct
As many of you know, a member of the Two Belles team is getting married in 15 days (not that we’re counting or anything). In celebration of DeShae’s upcoming nuptials, today’s post is all about what to wear to a fall wedding. Fall, especially in the south, can be a little tricky to dress. The weather is barely changing but you probably don’t want to wear your summer dresses late into October. Here’s a few tips for looking your best during the fall wedding season:

Layers:

Throwing a blazer or a cardigan over your summer dresses will instantly make your outfit more suitable for the fall. More structured dresses from your summer collection transition the best to fall. We’re personally loving the look of a tweed blazer in a fall hue over your basic Little Black Dress to instantly add a fall vibe that Coco Chanel would approve of. Alternatively, a solid black blazer will make a summer dress more appropriate for fall. Below are a few options of blazers for fall.

Blazers for fall wedding

Here, a cute summer dress is transformed with a fitted black blazer. Add your staple black booties, a cuff bracelet and sparkly earrings for an instant wedding outfit! A stunning black and silver clutch sets this look over the top! Another option is a classic black shift dress underneath a fall hued tweed blazer. A leopard and gold clutch adds some fun to the look. And who doesn’t love those jade and gold stunning art deco earrings. A nude caged heel is not only fall appropriate, but also makes your legs look instantly longer!

Which brings us to our next tip: Shoes! Fall shoes need to be chunkier and little heavier. Dainty, strappy summer sandals need not apply. It’s amazing how a bootie can instantly take an outfit into the fall season no matter the weather. Here are a few options we love!

Fall Shoes

Suede is always a go to for fall shoes and this year is no different. Heels here are made event friendly by adding little touches to your otherwise basic heel. Fringe, studs, jewel tones and art deco accents will make your shoes be the talk of the town. Leopard is brought to the next level with black stones. These embellishments will also help bring these hot heels into the cooler months.  These black suede booties are accented with a gold zipper to really set them apart. The lower heel height will also insure you are on the dance floor all night.

If you really want to go all out with a new dress. Here are some new trends and some of our favorite dresses this season:

Fall wedding

A solid red, figure flattering dress deserves a shoe stopping nude and gold heel. A statement turquoise necklace keeps the look away from being too holiday. For dressier night time weddings, sequins are toned down in a nude palette. Keep this dress in check with all black accessories. Peplum was huge for summer and it doesn’t seem to be letting up in the fall. Not only is this look eye catching, but it’s also incredibly flattering. Graphic black and white doesn’t need much else. Keep accessories simple by sticking to black booties and stunning chandelier earrings.

We hope you enjoyed today’s post! We can’t wait to hear your feedback!

How to: Classy, Fabulous Engagement Pics

10 Oct

Hey Everyone,

For today’s post the gals at Two Belles Events are going to talk a little about engagement pictures! If you want the classy pictures that will last a lifetime but are still trendy and modern then we’re your girls! Engagement sessions are a great way to spend time with your fiance and have a little fun. Relax and be yourself and you will love your pictures! Here are a few tips that we recommend to have the best engagement pictures ever! All pictures are from our actual engagement pictures!

What to Wear:

Most people chose to wear black or white for their engagement shoot, we highly recommend not doing this and going with a color instead! Don’t get us wrong black looks great if you have a show stopping accessory to show off. Great pair of shoes, statement necklaces, or a colorful scarf will really stand out against an all black background.

Bright colors will really make you pop against any background. The last thing any bride wants is to be lost in her own engagement pictures. We suggest wearing a solid color, or a very subtle pattern. This will create an overall slimming effect.

Make sure your clothes are fitted to you, as well. Just say no to that baby doll dress. When in doubt, throw on a belt!

Leopard heels really pop against a black palette

Olivia’s leopard heels add personality! Great minds must think alike! Deshae also wore leopard heels! Belt’s make any outfit 100 times more flattering, instantly!

Deshae Engagement Leopard

Deshae displaying hot leopard heels, as well as a statement necklace and a slimming belt!

One of the biggest mistakes a couple makes is thinking they have to match for their pictures. Don’t match, COORDINATE! When you wear the same color as your fiance, it makes it hard to see where you end and he begins.  Couple blob is a big no-no! Instead of wearing matching colors, wear colors that coordinate instead. Reds look great when paired with blues. Likewise, varying shades of the same color will also look great without looking like a two headed wedding monster. Talk about Bridezilla! If coordinating isn’t enough for you and you insist on matching then throw in a stripe or a subtle pattern, and match to one color in the pattern. Menswear makes it easier than ever to do this- patterned ties, striped shirts, blazers- the possibilities are endless!

Deshae’s pink really pops against her fiance’s blue!

Red and Blue look amazing together! And surprisingly doesn’t scream AMERICA!

Olivia’s orange and pink dress coordinates well with his pale peach button down!
Coordination is the key, not matching!

Hair and makeup:

You don’t want to look over done for your engagements, but you also would like to look a little nicer than you do to go to the grocery store. We recommend lots of blush and lipstick! Trust us, you might think you’re wearing too much makeup but in the pictures it will look pretty and natural. Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten was from my mother: “Never leave home without lipstick and some earrings!” Words.To.Live.By.

Wear your hair how you look best. Normally wear your hair straight? Then wear your hair straight! You want to look like yourself, and you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable during your shoot. Big time glamour is for your wedding day!

Deshae’s makeup is beautiful without being over the top

Olivia wore her hair wavy and loose to match the more casual feel of the shoot.

Have some fun and show your personality:

The best pictures are the ones that really show the couple’s personalities! You can take pictures at places that are special to you as a couple, incorporate props, make silly faces, whatever shows your true selves. Smile, laugh, love! These are what make the best pictures and the pictures you will want to show off to everyone!

Pinterest inspired scrabble pieces lend a super fun and personalized feel to the shoot! It doesn’t hurt how darn happy Deshae looks here!

Olivia met her fiance at LSU law. It seemed like the perfect place to take pictures! Beautiful weather completes the picture.

Another pinterest prop: The ampersand adds a super cute touch to the picture, while showing off Deshae’s creative side!

One of the many services Two Belles Event Planning offers is on site engagement shoots. We will handle your wardrobe and any props you need, as well as assist you on the day of the shoot. Camera shy? Don’t worry, we will have you laughing all day.

We look forward to hearing your feedback!

Two Belles

P.S. If your man is extra shy, you can always hand him a glass of whiskey. 😉 Works like a charm!

Parisian Chic

10 Oct

Two Belles was recently asked to decorate a table for a local charity tea party. We decided Brunch in Paris would be a perfect theme for the affair. Pretty pastels, vintage china, and blooming cherry blossom branches helped set the mood for table. Don’t forget a mini Eiffel Tower to really pull the look together.  This would be a great look for your bridal party!

Here are a few shots from the event:
